Leaders Attitude Sets the Tone

Leaders’ Attitude Sets the Tone

In any organization, the leaders’ attitude sets the tone for the entire company. In this article, we discuss the importance of a leader’s attitude and how it impacts the company’s bottom line. Often, we wonder why some companies are more successful than others. Although many factors contribute to a company’s overall success, we know for sure one factor affects the entire organization – attitude. And especially the attitude of the top leadership.

Below are five ways a company experiences positive results when its leaders choose a positive attitude in everything they do.

A change in perspective.

When leaders receive a new project, they have a choice to say, “I got to get this done.” Or “I get to do this new project with my team.” That decision sets the tone for the entire team to see the new project as an added burden. Or they see it as a new opportunity to learn, improve, or help the rest of the organization. Just using the words “get to” changes the approach and may even impact the entire outcome of a project. When the attitude changes, perspective changes as well

A servant’s heart.

Leaders’ understanding that it’s not about them but about helping their employees be successful, sets the tone of a servant’s heart. Leaders who always look for ways to help their employees grow in their jobs, gain their employees’ loyalty and respect. And employees who know their leader has their back work harder. Additionally, they have increased commitment to the company which improves productivity. Leaders who display a servant’s heart through their actions automatically encourage others to follow and imitate their behavior.

A Balanced Approach to Management.

Leaders who are micromanagers drive employees away and create a threatening environment to work in. On the other extreme, leaders who rarely check in with their employees make employees feel neglected and not valued. Therefore, a balanced approach is the best strategy to lead and manage the team. When leaders provide direction, training, and tools to do a project, then let employees run with it, they respond positively. The leader can then provide timely feedback without micromanaging the employee.

A Positive Attitude Is Contagious.

Both at home and at work, a positive attitude is contagious to those around. But especially the leader’s attitude in the workplace. The leader of a department can impact their entire team. Imagine the exponential impact on the company if the entire leadership team has a positive attitude towards all stakeholders. The potential for successful results is endless.

Consistency in attitude is critical.

Lastly, leaders must be consistent with their attitude. Understanding we are all human and that everyone experiences bad days, it’s essential that leaders are intentional about their attitude. The worst thing for a team to experience is working with a manager whose mood and attitude changes daily. It creates an atmosphere of distrust and is demoralizing to the team.

The leaders’ attitude sets the tone for the entire organization. It’s “the tone at the top” that matters! The best leaders choose a positive attitude regardless of their circumstances. A leader’s consistent, positive, servant’s heart attitude changes their perspective and creates an environment that produces results. Ultimately, that’s what every company leader wants to achieve in the end. Happy employees = happy customers = happy shareholders!
